Disaster Recovery History

Through our many partnerships with churches and other groups coming down to help rebuild after Katrina, we have been able to contribute to the rebuilding efforts of some of the members of our church. Additionally, some of these groups have contributed in a strong way toward the rebuilding of our parsonage.  Our own church members have also put major time into helping our newly renovated parsonage to be a pleasant place for Rev. and Mrs. Haynes and for future pastors of Cornerstone.

One special partnership has been with students and graduates of Clemson University.  The Wesley campus ministry of Clemson under the leadership of Rev. Lane Glaze began trips to the New Orleans area just after Katrina. Then the students decided they wanted to form a long term partnership and a permanent mission organization to help with the recovery of New Orleans. Destruction was so wide spread that these students knew this was needed. So the organization Tigers Go was formed.

For the past two summers, Tigers Go has run a summer camp called Camp Collide, where junior high, high school and college students from around the country could come and help in rebuilding homes and lives.  The staff of Camp Collide has spent many days over the last two summers helping members of our church move the process of recovery along for our homeowners.

If you or your church would like to help us and our members to rebuild by sending a team or just coming yourself, please contact us and we will help with work assignments, information and assistance about where to stay and what tools and other items you might need.
